It is my great privilege and pleasure to convey this massage to the proceeding of the 8th Annual Research Symposium 2016, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. The objective of the symposium is to endow with a platform for graduating students to present their undergraduate research and share the finding and latest information of the agricultural sector with their colleagues, industrial personals, scientists and academics from all over the Island. The constructive feedback that the research students may gather from the deliberations could pave the way to frontiers of research
This year, there are 66 abstracts from various disciplines, in the proceedings of the symposium. They are high quality research and would have, no doubt, cost each author a great deal in both time and energy; they are all highly appreciated for their efforts.
The role of the symposium is to coordinate the different events. This immense responsibility on me would have never been achieved without the talents, dedication and great support rendered by all the academics and nonacademics together with the students of Faculty of Agriculture. I would like to specially mention the proper guidance of Prof. Ranjith Wijayawardena, the Vice Chancellor, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and the unflinching encouragement and motivation rendered by Dr. M.G.T.S. Amarasekra, Dean of the faculty towards the organization of this huge event. Chairpersons and members of different sub-committees have done a wonderful job in organizing this symposium, and I would like to thank them for their enormous support, continuous interest as well as constructive suggestions to make this event a successful one. Reviewers deserve special thanks for reviewing abstracts and Editor-in-chief who contributed immensely for bringing this publication out within a short period. Further, financial support given by the Research, Publication and Higher Degree Committee of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka to conduct the symposium and print the proceedings of the symposium is greatly appreciated. The bigger workload carried out by Ms. T.D.C. Priyadarshani, secretary to symposium is admirable. I would like to appreciate administrative staff for arranging all the necessary logistics needed to succeed the symposium. I am indebted to chairpersons of and panel of judges for chairing sessions and evaluating the presenters. Finally, I would like to congratulate all the final year undergraduate student who become graduated today and I wish successful career in the years ahead.
It is with great pleasure that I write this short message to the proceedings of the 8th Annual Research Symposium, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. The Annual Research Symposium, Faculty of Agriculture provide excellent opportunity to final year students to present their research findings to a panel consist of eminent scholars. This forum also helps to share research findings with industry people and other stakeholders who need assistance for their technical issues.
The symposium proceedings include findings of the 85 research projects conducted by final year students with the collaboration of different government and private sector organizations. The quality of the proceedings reflects the high standard of the research and the excellent contribution of the reviewers and the members of the editorial board. Their effort is highly appreciated.
My sincere thanks goes to the Vice Chancellor of the university for providing financial assistance and also his moral support to organize this event. The symposium would not have been possible without the enthusiastic and hard work of a number of colleagues. I would like to express my appreciation to Dr. D.M.D. Dissanayaka, Symposium Coordinator, Dr. W.C.P. Egodawatha Editor In – Chief of 8th Annual Research Symposium 2015 and all committee members for their valuable contribution to make this event success. Finally I take this opportunity to congratulate all presenters for successfully completing research projects and wish you all very best of luck.
I feel honored and privileged as the Vice Chancellor to write this congratulatory message to the 8th Annual Research Symposium 2016 organized by Faculty of the Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. This symposium basically provide a forum to bring scientists and students and industry personnel together and share their findings with the academic community. I have to mention that most of the research carried out by the student as partial fulfillments of degree program could be considered as applied research that address issues directly relevant to the development of agricultural sector.
Over the last few years, undergraduate research work by students of the Faculty of Agriculture has immensely contributed to strength the research culture of Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in particular. It is inspiring to notice that the majority of the publications in the proceeding of 8th annual research symposium 2016 have showcased the research potential and the talents of the graduating students. Finally, I wish to convey my gratitude to Dr. M.G.T.S. Amerasekara, the dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. D.M.D. Dissanayake, the Coordinator of the 8th Annual Research Symposium 2016, Dr. W.C. P. Egodawatta, Editor-in-Chief of the proceeding of the 8th Annual Research Symposium 2016 and the academic staff of the Faculty of Agriculture for making this event outstanding. I take this opportunity to congratulate all undergraduates, who shall graduate soon, every success.
